Descent: Source

The game Descent recreated in the source engine or a GMod gamemode. This might ALSO be cool to implement in something like Sandbox, and add in 3d space mouse support so you can actually move around using a 3d input device. Legit came up with this in like 2010 and then dropped because why port it when the actual game already exists?

Gravity water energy extraction thing.

Huge water tower with a pipe filled with turbines all the way down allowing max energy extraction and an intermittent counterweight water return elevator system supplemented by gravity pumps and rainwater regeneration.

Laser Rangefinder + Follow Focus for Manually focusing lenses

A little laser rangefinder module that goes on a camera’s hot shoe and connects to a little motor that can be universally fitted to any lens to give it auto focus capability.

DJI has brought this to market, my idea was originally something less professional and a lot more simplistic. Ideally open source (which I have other ideas for not listed here!)

Modern Hybrid Fuel powered Electric Vehicle

An engine using electric heaters to vaporize ANY type of fuel (diesel, gas, waste oil) which then powers an engine that spins a generator which powers high torque electric motors to drive the vehicle. SMALL battery system to store extra energy created during engine idle and regenerative breaking. The idea is that it works like how a train works, a fuel powered LONG RANGE/high performance EV.

Myst: Source

The game Myst recreated fully in 3d in the source engine as either a standalone mod or ideally a GMod gamemode. Would be really cool. Was planning on porting just myst island to gmod and still might one day since it would be a pretty cool little project.

Ram Controller Malware

Modifying the control chips of memory to automatically inject malicious code. For example the controller detects that windows is loading itself into memory, the controller will then manipulate the memory to add in some kind of undetectable malicious software.

Runescape Day Planner

This probably already exists as various runelite plugins, but this would be software that tells you exactly what equipment you need, keeps track of times, gives you notifications, optimzies routes, tells me what fairy ring codes to use, what runes or items to bring for teleports, and other stuff! Used for things like Daily tasks, farming runs, etc. Pretty much I don’t wanna have to remember all this crap I just want the program to play the game for me so I can actually enjoy the game without worrying about getting the most amount of free $ or XP passively, and I sure as hell do NOT want to give yagex a single penny.

Shark Pool Toy That Chases You

A pool toy that uses either a thermal sensor array like a guided missile would or computer vision to point itself towards humans inside of a swimming pool. Would be pretty trivial to build and I think it would be a lot of fun. MUST run off of replaceable batteries, ideally AA becuase NO ONE is plugging in a pool toy to charge it or connecting it to some stupid APP.

I came up with this idea: A long time ago, when I found an old pool toy of mine that was like a little motorized torpedo.

Skid Steer and other equipment for Wheelchairs

Imagine a world where cripples were able to take their wheelchairs and attach them to various devices like a skid steer, snow plow, a lawn mower, or whatever. That way they could do construction and landscaping type work easily! This would open a whole new field of carrier opportunities for disabled individuals, by turning them into heavy equipment!

I may have gotten this idea from Owen Benjamin, it was in my funny notes file.

True Lens Sharpness Testing Device

A device designed to avoid field curvature and spherical aberrations when testing to see how sharp a camera lens is. Also has the side effect of being able to measure field curvature. A series of pegs which move in and out controlled via software. Each peg has a small computer readable test target on the tip. As each peg moves in or out the software, which is attached to a live feed from the camera, determines the point at which the tip of the peg is the most in focus. The more pegs the more accurate you can model the lens with diminishing returns after a certain point. Would be VERY easy to make, something that does the same thing might already exist.

UrPlane: Uber for Private Airplanes

A service like uber or lift but for private local pilots to make $ flying normal people places. This actually already exists but it is focused on executive flight chartering. It’s too and expensive somewhat due to over regulation. Turns out the FAA does NOT allow pilots to fly people places for $ unless they follow all these lame rules and they even regulate the prices. Well UrPlane will get around this! You just pay a subscription to use the service and the service pays the pilots, OR maybe you pay the pilots directly but you don’t actually “pay” them you just give them a not technically “required” “gift” or a “tip” in person or via the service to thank them for flying their personal friend (you) somewhere! This is just like how in places where prostitution is not allowed they get around it by having “very short spontaneous romantic relationships”.
